How to Report Elder Abuse: Protect Seniors and Get Help Fast

Last reviewed: June 1, 2026  ·  Written by James Carter, Consumer Rights Researcher  ·  Independent resource — not a government site

Quick answer

Report elder abuse to Adult Protective Services via the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116 or eldercare.acl.gov. For nursing home abuse contact your state Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Call 911 if the senior is in immediate danger.

Elder abuse often involves financial exploitation. If you suspect fraud related to Social Security or Medicare benefits, you should also report disability fraud. In cases where law enforcement fails to respond appropriately, you may need to report police misconduct.
